Breast Implants: How to Choose the Right Size

Choosing the right implant size is one of the most important parts of planning your breast augmentation. It’s also one of the most common things patients worry about (understandably so). The good news? You don’t have to figure it out on your own. At my practice, I guide patients through a step-by-step process to help them choose an implant size that fits their goals, their body, and their lifestyle.

What’s “Right” Depends on You

It’s important to recognize that there’s no such thing as one perfect implant size. The right size for you is the one that complements your natural frame, feels proportional to your body, and aligns with your aesthetic goals. Choosing the right implant size, then, is a personal decision that depends on your unique body proportions, natural breast tissue, and desired outcome.

During your consultation, we’ll use sizers and imaging technology to help you visualize different options so that you can make a confident, informed choice. We’ll also review reference photos and discuss your lifestyle, activity level, and preferences to ensure that the implant size we choose feels right for you in every way.

It’s About More Than Cup Size

Many patients come in asking for a specific cup size, but breast implants are not measured in cup sizes. Cup sizes vary between brands and aren’t always a reliable indicator of how breasts look. Instead, breast implants are measured by volume in cubic centimeters (ccs), giving a much more accurate measurement. We’ll look at how that volume works with your body’s measurements—like your chest width, skin elasticity, and tissue thickness. All of these details come together to help us choose an implant that looks natural and feels right for you.

How Size and Profile Work Together

Implant size isn’t the only thing that affects your final look—implant profile plays a big role, too. The “profile” refers to how far the implant projects from the chest. Higher profile implants offer more projection and create a fuller, rounder appearance, while lower profile implants tend to give a softer, more natural slope.

What many patients don’t realize is that two implants with the same volume can look very different depending on the profile. That’s why we consider both size and profile together, along with your unique body proportions, to create a result that looks balanced and beautiful. During your consultation, we’ll talk through your options so you feel confident in every aspect of your decision.

Silicone or Saline?

The type of implant you choose will also play a role in how the sizing turns out, and it will also influence your final look and feel. Silicone implants often offer a softer, more natural feel and are available in a range of pre-made shapes and sizes. Saline implants are filled after placement, which allows for sizing adjustments in the operating room. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of each during your consultation.

It’s a Collaborative Process

Choosing your breast implant size is a deeply personal decision, but you don’t have to make it alone. My role is to guide you through the process with my experience and expertise, clear communication of all your options, and a genuine understanding of your anatomy and your goals. We’ll walk through each step together until you feel confident, informed, and excited about your decision.
