Male Cosmetic Surgery
Male plastic surgery refers to cosmetic procedures tailored specifically to the needs and goals of men. While many techniques are similar to those used for women, male patients often seek more defined, angular, and athletic contours, as well as natural-looking facial rejuvenation that preserves a masculine appearance.
Dr. Colton McNichols offers a range of plastic surgery procedures for men in Pueblo, Colorado to help refine, rejuvenate, and masculinize both body and face so that you can look and feel completely confident in your body.
Many plastic surgery procedures can be performed on men as well as women. Here are some of the most common male plastic surgery options that Dr. McNichols offers:
Male plastic surgery is highly individualized. During your consultation, Dr. McNichols will discuss your concerns, examine your anatomy, and recommend a surgical plan that may include one or multiple procedures for more comprehensive results.
Candidates
You may be a candidate for male plastic surgery if:
- You have stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise
- You have loose or excess skin on your abdomen, face, or neck
- You are bothered by signs of aging, such as jowls, deep facial creases, or a sagging neck
- You are in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the outcome
- You are a non-smoker (or are willing to quit prior to surgery)
Ideal candidates should also be at or near a stable weight, as significant weight fluctuations can affect the results of body contouring procedures.
Recovery
Recovery from cosmetic surgery varies depending on the specific procedures performed. In general, here is what you can expect:
After surgery, you will be monitored in a recovery area before being discharged home. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 to 48 hours. Depending on the procedure, dressings or compression garments may be applied to help minimize swelling and support the treated areas.
Most of this week will be resting and healing. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common; these symptoms can be managed with prescribed medications. You will be advised to avoid strenuous activity and follow specific instructions regarding incision care, sleeping position, and use of compression garments.
Many patients can return to light activities and non-strenuous work within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the procedure(s) performed and the nature of their job. More demanding physical activity, such as heavy lifting or vigorous exercise, should typically be avoided for at least 4 to 6 weeks or until cleared by Dr. McNichols.
After the initial 7 to 10 days of downtime, most patients are ready to resume general activities (except strenuous exercise). Bruising, soreness, and swelling generally improve over the first several weeks, but full recovery can take weeks to months as the body adjusts, tissues settle, and incisions mature. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled so that Dr. McNichols can monitor your healing and address any questions or concerns.
